Tell me I’m not the only one who watched this and thought, “Best idea ever”

You seem to think that by the US owing money to China that somehow gives China power over the US. It doesn’t. China needs to have some way of enforcing those loans. It doesn’t. If China calls in its loans, as you so simplistically put it, all the US needs to do is say “fuck off” and that’s the end of that. What would China’s next move be?

I find this so funny because I know someone who did this for his co-op.

AM I the only one who thinks this is the funniest video these guys have made? I’ve seen it about 5 times now in the last 24 hours. There are many small details in the video that you notice after watching it a few times. From the guy painting his airplanes at work to the idea of outsourcing done by other outsources. There’s so many small touches. You gotta love the creators of this video!

Nano, don’t be so sure. Lets wait and we’ll see. I know few people who went to China in the last two years. They all were coming back with word “Wooow! They will rule the world!” And I am from good old Europe. So I wouldn’t be such arogant if I were you. The truth is that american goverment is pretty nervous about “china issue”.

10 years ago i never would have believed they would be able to pull off their ‘news’ website as a video…they certainly did. So damn funny!

Well I’m also European. Living in Canada now. So I’m not speaking as an American defending my government. I’m speaking as somebody with half a brain. If China calls in its debt (again, as if its as simple as that) and the US says fuck off, what is China’s next move?

China can’t simply call its loans (reserve funds issues), nor would that result in a catastrophe for the US (only half of US public debt in foreign hands, and only half of that in Chinese hands).
My advice for the Chinese is the same one that Deng Xioping gave at his deathbed: lie low for another decade or two! Japan was far more powerful than China is right now in the 80s – 8 of the 10 largest banks were theirs. Where is Japan now?

1Taphinie, Japan is just East of Korea. You should buy yourself a man.

Send toys dipped in lead.
On a serious note. If china stops lending money to the US it will be unpleasant for the US. But doing so would hurt China as they would no longer have a bigbox mart to sell their crap…
November 6th, 2009 at 10:57 am
Yes, 1tephania, but you are forgeting, how many Japanese there are in the world and how many there are Chinese. There is no country in the world where Chinese are not settled. And they keep themselves together where ever they are. Think about that.
November 6th, 2009 at 11:02 am
I doubt they will nock on the door and ask their money. There are a lot of ways how they can do it. There are a lot of theories how this could be done.
November 6th, 2009 at 6:14 pm
Yes, I know, and that’s why I think this time it will be different – China’s rise is on a different scale compared to Japan’s rise, or Korea’s rise, or whatever. Yet the analogy can be made. And China is still poorer than Japan was in the 80s.
And the power of the Chinese diaspora is overblown. They integrate more than people think.

The US has an enourmous interests in keeping the dollar as the global reserve currency. If they say “fuck off” that would be the end of the dollar standard.
November 18th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
